Leaders from Nyandarua district have launched a scathing attack against the Minster for Local Government Musalia Mudavadi on the proposal to make it a pre-qualification for civic posts candidates to have diplomas and degrees.
The leaders say the Minister tabled the bill in parliament acting unilaterally, and claim the proposal in the bill demanding all county chairpersons and town mayors to have diplomas and degrees respectively is un-called for, bearing in mind that members of parliament are only required to be literate in the national language, Kiswahili.
The leaders now demand an amendment of the bill once it is tabled in parliament as soon as parliament reconvenes.
In the meantime, the leaders have put the Ministry of Agriculture on the spot over the lending of agricultural machines at a price that is out of reach for the residents.
“Agriculture Minister William Ruto is being biased by issuing the machinery free of charge to some communities in Rift Valley, while others hire,” Ol Kalou MP Erastus Muriethi accused.
