Kenya boasts an excellent record in the World Cup street finals..

 

And as the country prepares for yet another edition of the tournament, team officials are assured of a repeat of the previous succeses if not better..

 

And the organizers have increased their selection base to ensure that more players with talent are considered..

 

The Provisional National team of 12 players will be selected on Sunday during the regional finals to be staged at the Jericho grounds..

 

This year more than 2500 street children took part in the tournament and the Kenya Homeless Soccer Association CEO Ahmed Mohammed says the team will start a 3 month residential training ahead of the tournament.

 

All the eight zones in Nairobi will be represented by a team of eight selected players during the preliminaries. The zones include hosts Jericho Huruma Babadogo, Korogocho, Dandora, Dagoretti, Kibera and City Stadium.

 

The World Cup Street and Homeless Soccer finals are slated for 16-26 of September at Copa Cabana Beach in rio de janeiro Brazil. Kenya will be among 64 nations from all over the world that will play at the finals .. Kenya finished 6th overall in Denmark 2007 and 9th in Capetown South Africa last year.

 

Meanwile, the team received a 75,000 sponsorship cheque from National Housing Corporation.
